Woodford Wells lays claim to being one of the premier tennis clubs in South West Essex, catering to all ages and abilities, from mini tennis players to veterans, from strictly social players to those who compete at club, county or national level.

 

The club boasts 11 all-weather courts, of which 7 are artificial grass (two if which were newly laid in August 2019), while 4 are acrylic. Five of the artificial grass courts are floodlit until 10pm all year round. There are ample opportunities for both sociable and more competitive play at a level to suit each player: various social and team practice sessions are organised on weekday evenings, at weekends and also at selected times during the day. For those of a competitive nature, the club enters numerous teams (including men’s, ladies, mixed, veterans and mini tennis) into various summer and winter leagues, providing the opportunity for match play both at home and at clubs throughout Essex.

Closer to home, the club holds an annual summer tournament offering opportunity for both doubles and singles play, with finals day also a highlight of the club calendar. A singles ladder is run throughout the year, with several divisions catering to all standards, but also providing regular opportunity for rotation between divisions. a number of social events are organised by the tennis section throughout the year, including dinner and dance, friendly competitions, and the Wimbledon ticket ballot.
