The Woodford Wells Club’s Open Squash57 Championships were held on the afternoon of Saturday 18th May, hot on the heals of Friday night's squash finals. The pool matches had a number of closely fought battles and built nicely into the semis and final. Zoe Fennel had shown a lot of promise in the pool matches but Friday night finally caught up with her in her semi-final against Patrick Osborn and Marc Thornley proved to be too strong for Russell Cox in the other semi. In the final Marc Thornley stormed to an early lead but made one too many errors in the 2nd game letting Patrick Osborn into the match and may be thanks to marker leniency at the very start of the 3rd game (carefully edited out of the video) Patrick Osborn ran away with the match, retaining his title.

Winner - Patrick Osborn; RU – Marc Thornley

Video action from the main event can be found here:

Good luck to Mel Doughty, Zoe Fennell, Marc Thornley, Paul Fennell and Patrick Osborn who will all be representing Essex at the Inter-County Championships in Nottingham early June.

Let's also not forget David King, ably assisted by Zoe Mellis, for his 'Wolf on Tour' auction in the bar afterwards.
